Default Tengu

In freekin mobs of a billion every time I see them! No way around them! You have to go through a red blob on your compass that's bigger than the bloody image itself.
You can't outrun them (they're faster than you are), you can't overpower them (they outnumber you 10:1).
What the hell is up with this? They're not a natural barrier (like a mountain), they're an enemy! You shouldn't have to die 2387429834 times to get through the area they're occupying!

Scatter these stupid things! Have groups of 4, NOT 40!
Or at least LOWER THEIR LEVEL!

Yep, the tengu are IMO the hardest enemy groups in the game. They'd probably kick the snot out of mursaat and jades if they were infused. I'd suggest making friends with a protection monk or 3. Or 4 or 5. :-/

Tengu groups are all too efective, I hate then too ...

Also I feel they are too powerful for their listed level, I seen then having no problems in getting rid of the lv15 ettins and undead that enter their aggro circle.

I hate going to ascalon settement since the faster road leading to it appears to be guarded by a entire Tengu division,

If you thing the Tengu swarms are bad, wait until you see their Avicara cousins in Mineral Springs! The snow plains are literally filled with them. And if you aggro one, you aggro them all. It's no fun when you have five ranger type Avicara launching ignited dual shots at you.

Where are you seeing this? At lower levels, I just go around them. I'm unaware of any place in the game where you have to fight your way through them, at least not while I can't. I think the ones in Stingray Strand guarding the chest you need to open to complete a quest are the only Tengu you need to fight west of the Shiverpeaks. (In the Southern Shiverpeaks, you'll find the Avicara, but by then you're level 20 and they aren't too hard to deal with. Incidently, Avicara are Tengu too, according to the manual. Camori and Avicara are just two different tribes of Tengu.)

I love tengu. Damn, if only they didn't have so many enchant breakers in them, i would get my revenge on them big time!
They are just how an enemy should be...very tough. I would like to see more of them. (IMO)

I had no trouble with tengu, now the Avicara are the worst. I was attempting to go to Camp Rankor. Right before the camp, there was around 20 Avicara of all types, and they were all around the Rez place. Attempting to run past them gets you into the Shadowy guys who are just as bad.

LOL. i too am an ascended "hero" who is also clever (or cowardly) enough to avoid the southern shiverpeaks.

Avicara...sweet. Please Anet give us a field full of avicara braves only so we can have big fights, lol.

LOL I saw that too. I aggro'd the group to draw them away from the rez shrine then I left my poor henchmen pack and ran like h-e-double toothpicks. I found, to my dismay, the shadowy guys who promptly snuffed my monkish behind. Luckily though we res'd at the shrine right there and effectively took care of the shadow guys and the Avicara were still up the road where they'd conquered the henchmen so I avoided the fight. After that, one more something or another and I was in Camp Rankor.

Barbed Trap - Trap
When Barbed Trap is triggered, all foes in the area take 20-56 piercing damage, become "Crippled" and begin "Bleeding" for 3-21 seconds. Barbed Trap ends after 90 seconds. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted.

Apply Poison - Preparation
For 24 seconds, enemies struck by your physical attacks become poisoned for 3-13 seconds.

Ignite Arrows - Preparation
For 24 seconds, your arrows explode on contact, dealing 3-15 Fire damage.

Dual Shot - Bow Attack
Shoot two arrows simultaneously at target foe. These arrows deal 25% less damage than normal.

Lightning Reflexes - Stance
For 5-10 seconds, you have a 75% chance to "evade" melee and arrow attacks, and attack 33% faster.

Throw Dirt - Skill
Target touched foe and foes adjacent to your target are Blinded for 3-13 seconds.

Whirling Defense - Stance
For 8-18 seconds, you have a 75% chance to "Block" attacks. Whenever you block an attack this way, adjacent foes take 5-10 piercing damage.

Storm Chaser - Stance
For 8-18 seconds, you move 25% faster and gain 1-4 Energy whenever you take Elemental damage.

....and Tengus are no longer a problem.

Poor tengu

Sounds like a vicious build, Fungus! Please don't get on my opposing team in PvP.

What the hell is up with this?
Are you trying to rush past them? Bad monkey ~ no banana for you~!
Try FIGHTING them.
They are not terribly bright, and are easily manipulated into choke points.

That's what my previously stated approach takes advantage of. Set a few traps at a choke point, lure them in. Once they are crippled (and of course bunched up tight) nail them with aoe attacks like ignite arrow and dual shot while 33%faster with Lightning Reflexes. When the crippling from the traps is almost worn off, hit them with Throw Dirt. That buys more time to attack again, set another trap, and repeat. If they manage to get the upper hand then use the defences in sequence to get the heck out! With those few defensive sklls equipped you can almost always keep one active. When a defensive skill is about to wear out, then use storm chaser to bolt out of aggro range while they are blind. Found this all out trying to go north of fisherman's haven with henches.

step 1 - learn to fear the Avicara and Caromi
step 2 - learn to respect the Avicara and Caromi
step 3 - learn to love the Avicara and Caromi
step 4 - have some Avicara tea and a game of poker

If only ANet could reflect hench AI on Tengu AI, then you can breeze through the missions in a day (Henchies).

Every class has a opponent that is very difficult to beat; its the rock-paper-scissors model again.
Being a caster, I don't want to be anywhere within melee range of the more ferocious creatures - like avicara. That said, the trick is to discover your class weakness, and avoid it as best as possible.
You don't play the opponents game, you make him play yours.
